CGBMT participated in this global conference, which celebrated the International Year of Forests. Ar. Neelam Manjunath presented a talk on “Saga of the Poor Man’s Timber”, under the topic “Wood in Architecture”, which highlighted the journey of Bamboo from being the Poor man’s timber to becoming a mainstream contemporary building material. The conference aimed to help the participants understand the outlook for wood products and contribute to develop strategies for future sustainable development. The main intention was to explore how socio-economic trends are affecting the use of wood products and what challenges arise as the consequence of these developments. It attempted to explore how the changing expectations of society shape the future for wood products. The huge role which Bamboo can play in meeting these challenges was put forth by CGBMT.
