Date: June 22, 2012 Organizer: Steffi Silbermann-CGBMT- Manasaram Architects
The Indo-German urban mela was a 10-day program held at Palace grounds, Bangalore. A set of six pavilions hosted interactive presentations by various German corporations and organizations. With the idea of promoting bamboo applications, German product designer Steffi Silbermann displayed her bamboo sculptures, in collaboration with CGBMT and Manasaram architects. The interesting features about these were that they weren’t just pieces of art but playfully functional, forming seats or swings that visitors could use. The idea was that people can sit on them and feel the characteristics of the bamboo. The assembly was placed at the centre of the venue so that people can sit and look around. Colorful nylon ropes were used to bind the bamboo pieces, without the use of screws.
